题目:Mathematical Analysis of the Dimensional Scaling Method in Chemical Physics

摘要:The dimensional scaling (D-scaling) technique is an innovative asymptotic method to study the multiparticle systems in molecular quantum mechanics. Its idea originated from quantum chromodynamics where a particle in 3-dimension is imbedded in N-dimension and N is to tend to infinity. It enables the calculation of ground and excited state energies of quantum systems without having to solve the Schrödinger equation. In this talk, we present a mathematical analysis of the D-scaling technique for the Schrödinger equation for the hydrogen atom and
for the power-law potentials. By casting the D-scaling technique in an appropriate variational setting and studying the corresponding minimization problem, the D-scaling technique is justified rigorously. A new asymptotic dimensional expansion scheme is introduced to compute asymptotic expansions for ground state energies.

报告人简介:Goong Chen教授 1950出生在台湾,1972年本科毕业于台湾清华大学,1977年博士毕业于美国 University of Wisconsin at Madison,导师是David Russell教授。1977-1987 先后在Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (1977–78), and the Pennsylvania State University at University Park (1978-87)任助理教授和副教授,1987 年至今,一直在Texas A&M Univerity-College Station数学系和航空学院任教授,先后指导了18名博士生和多名访问学者.Goong Chen教授至今出版了7本英文著作,编辑了4本英文学术著作,主编了 两个学术专辑,发表了近150多篇高水平的学术论文。曾担任多个国际杂志 的编委,例如SIAM Journal on Control and Optimization。目前是国际杂志 Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications的主编和美国出版社Chapman & Hall/CRC的应用数学类丛书的主编。
